The best modern fairy tales to make you believe in magic again

A couple of months ago, I was invited to put together a list page for the new-concept, book-discovery website shepherd.com. It’s a cool idea, with lots more features planned. Authors recommend a list of five good books that are similar to one that they wrote themselves, and readers can search up the name of a book they enjoyed, and instantly get reliable suggestions for their next read in the same genre.

For my list, I chose magical, modern fairy tales to go with my ‘Blackwood Crusade‘ book. If you’re a modern fairytale reader, click the button to check out my page, and see if you agree with my picks. What would you have chosen instead? I was impressed with the cover versions they picked for each of my choices – my own copies are quite plain in comparison!

And if you can’t stand fairytales (for some bizarre reason!), there are some pretty amazing other lists on the website, fiction and non-fiction, covering all sorts of things…. ‘The best books about enemies who can’t stand the heat (between them)’, ‘The best books to help us face up to the environmental crisis’, ‘The best books that paint a multi-dimensional portrait of the wolf’… I could go on and on and on…
